So who is Daniel Splane? I'm so glad you asked! I am a first-year student at the University of California, Irvine. I was previously a Biomedical Engineering student, but I am now studying Biology. I am African-American and Mexican and I live in San Jose, California. Here are a few fun things to know about me: I'm a Christian, love video games, am obsessed with chicken, and I'm a die-hard Los Angeles Rams fan.

Welcome to my personal portfolio for Writing 45 section 33171 (8:00 am). Here I post blogs about everything that happens throughout the course.
Writing 45
Writing 45 is a 6-unit lower-division writing class here at UC Irvine. Students are required to create a Genre Analysis essay (40%) and an Imitation Practice Multimodal Memoir Essay (60%).
CLASS THEME:
Memoir: A Slice of Life - The Rhetoric of Home, Family, and Self with an emphasis on identity, language, and ethnicity (per the course syllabus)

Course Objectives
Here are some notable course objectives for the Writing 45 class:

Integrate primary and secondary sources according to their relevance and rhetorical efficacy within the Genre Analysis essay

Develop arguable claims about individual learning driven by metacognitive analysis of specific writing assignments and the student’s understanding of key course concepts

Develop arguable claims based on textual analysis of appropriate evidence from primary sources and thoughtful engagement with competing viewpoints in secondary sources

Give productive feedback on peers’ writing-in-progress; prioritize and implement feedback received from instructor and peers to revise effectively over multiple drafts

Credit the original ideas and work of others through proper attribution and citation, according to the conventions of the selected genre
