The first draft of my Genre Analysis (GA) essay was probably one of the worst first drafts every created by a human being. The tone did not flow, and the ideas did not connect. My evidence was not completed with analysis, and the essay was not close to being in MLA format. Since then, my essay has been reviewed by professor Delany-Ullman as well as my classmates. Professor left numerous comments about how my genre conventions are not the most arguable, and how that needed to change. My peers claimed that my ideas did not connect perfectly, and that I should expand on my analysis. Also, I was told that I needed to change the entire format of my essay.

I was so overwhelmed by all of the revision advice my peers gave me, I felt like my brain received this error code:

Despite all of this, I agree with every single bit of feedback that was given to me! They all left very, very good feedback for me on my first draft, and since then I have revised my essay entirely. My ideas did not flow correctly. My format was incorrect. I practically had errors in every category of the GA essay rubric, so I know I had to change up some things.

Since then I have given my essay the proper MLA format, and also given it a title.

My first draft did not have these components, so I have already seen improvement. I have broken my gigantic paragraphs into different sections, and I have also elaborated on my analysis. I have created two separate introduction paragraphs, which both serve different purposes. My thesis no longer says "character development" but instead says "fiction" as I have added a paragraph regarding storytelling.

Despite all of this, there is still so much room for my essay to improve. My topic of fiction still needs to be made more arguable, and I still have one very large paragraph that needs to be broken down. There is no doubt in my mind that by the end of this week, I will have created a Genre Analysis essay that I am confident in turning in for review.
